Structured Clinical & Objective Practice for Examinations
SCOPE is an educational programme founded by two UK Consultant Anaesthetists to give candidates realistic, supportive and high-quality preparation for the Primary FRCA.
Why SCOPE exists
SCOPE was founded after its organisers identified a need for high-quality, face-to-face Primary FRCA preparation while training Stage 1 anaesthetists. Too often, candidates lacked realistic opportunities to rehearse under genuine examination conditions.
Our mission is simple: recreate the timing, pressure and structure of the real examination, and pair it with individualised, actionable feedback — so candidates walk into the exam knowing exactly what to expect.
How we teach
Led by UK Consultant Anaesthetists
Both founders combine active NHS consultant practice with a strong interest in medical education.

Building on our previous success, our second Primary FRCA Practice Day offered comprehensive exam preparation led by experienced consultants, senior registrars, and recently passed candidates. The intensive itinerary included a 14-station practice circuit in the morning, dedicated SOE vivas in the afternoon, and an exclusive midday session focused on essential examination-day strategies.
Primary FRCA OSCE & SOE Practice Day - Jan 2026
Our inaugural Primary FRCA course at West Suffolk Hospital offered intensive, authentic exam preparation led by local consultants, senior registrars, and recently passed candidates. The program featured an efficiently organized two-circuit OSCE format (seven stations each), high-fidelity SOE simulations reflecting the real exam, and a focused strategy session from an experienced consultant—earning outstanding feedback from candidates.
Future educational plans
We are developing further courses across anaesthesia and acute-care education. Dates are not yet confirmed — but the direction is clear.
SCOPE Anaesthesia is an independent educational programme and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. We make no claim of guaranteed examination success or formal accreditation.
